Graduate Students : MBA : 895 Research Project Completion Workshop

Invitation to Attend the BUS 895 Completion Workshop

Dear Students,

The Graduate Business Programs is offering a one-time only opportunity for MBA candidates who have passed all the other courses in the program, but still need to complete their research project requirement to earn their degrees, to enroll in a completion workshop. Remember, you cannot claim the status of having fully earned your MBA degree until all requirements are completed.

Bear in mind that you have only seven years to complete all course work to earn your diploma, which is calculated from the day you started your first 800-level course in the program. If you are beyond the seven year limit, please contact Albert Koo immediately at alkoo@sfsu.edu. This invitation does not include MSBA candidates.

Purpose

Many students who have finished all the other course work have difficulty completing their 895 research project requirement, which does not involve a structured course. The Graduate Business Programs is offering a one-time only opportunity to help students finish their 895 requirement by offering a Completion Workshop led by Professor and Director John Dopp: jdopp@sfsu.edu. The workshop will meet during the fall 2009 semester on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Sept. 12–Oct. 31 (Part I) with a final 20 page paper due by 7:00 p.m. Nov. 30, 2009 (Part 2).

Workshop Requirements

Students must finish Part I and Part II of the workshop. Students must have full attendance in Part I during the eight weeks of workshop meetings.

All Part I workshop assignments will be on a letter grade A through F basis. Grades lower than a C on assignments in Part I cannot be recorded and will be subject to re-submission on or before 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2009.

Part II is the completion of a final paper that must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2009. The final paper will be graded by two professors on an A, A-, B+, B, or No Credit basis.

To pass the workshop and complete the BUS 895 requirement, Part I must have a minimum average grade of B (3.0) and Part II must receive a grade of B or better. A total grade of less than a B in Part I, or a grade of No Credit in Part II will result in No Credit for the workshop. Final grades for BUS 895 will be posted January 4, 2010.

Expected Outcome

Once you have successfully completed this twelve-week workshop with a B or better grade, you will have completed the BUS 895 Research Project requirement. You will then be eligible for graduation. In order to receive your diploma, you must file an Application for Graduation and pay the required fee, provided you have earned at minimum a passing B grade.

If you fail to earn a passing grade for the workshop, you will have to complete your BUS 895 as originally designed (stipulated in the University Bulletin published the day of your first enrollment in the University).
